Why do we gather?

According to notes from Franklinton Center Day 2010, “Franklinton Center Day started more than 30 years ago when Dr. Ronald Morris was Director. It began as an event that was held the First Saturday of July in the Auditorium. People brough their lunch baskets and shared them outside on the grounds. The main reason was that African American United Church of Christ (UCC) people came to show support for the Center. There would be about 100 people who brought checks and cash to leave with the Center.”

And we still gather together TODAY!

“Later, the gathering grew and moved to the big tent at the very center of the campus [the Quad]. United Black Christians (UBC) jointed to help make it a carnival like atmosphere. There was preaching, singing, eating, swimming and the list goes on. People now come in cars, vans and buses to this event that has been held for more than twenty years on the First Saturday in August.

And we still gather together TODAY!

“While most people still come from the Southern Conference of the UCC, people come from the local community as well as across the country. All races and denominations find it to be a “Family Homecoming” of sorts. Good worship, good food and lots of fun is enjoyed by the hundreds of people who come.”

And we still gather together TODAY!

“It is still a time when people bring checks and cash with them to offer as gifts to the Center. It is the largest fundraiser day for the constituency. Churches and individuals send or bring their gifts around this time. This day is a “life blood” day for Franklinton Center at Bricks. The money that churches and people bring is life blood. But, the inspiration that people offer to the Center and each other is equally as important.

And TODAY, we still gather and Welcome You Home to Franklinton Center at Bricks.

“So, we hope that each person who attends will be blessed by being present and will therefore, become a blessing to others.”
