Our beloved, long-serving Executive Director Vivian M. Lucas has officially retired.

For over 19 years, Ms. Lucas has stewarded this sacred vision and mission with our incredible staff and Board of Trustees. Through her leadership FCAB has been able to host over 16,000 visitors, create learning pods with the Edgecombe County Public School system, expand broadband infrastructure and become a drive-up internet cafe, survive the pivoting times of COVID and more. FCAB, social movements across the country and the world celebrate her leadership and wish her all the best as she enters this next phase of life.
For over 150 years, Franklinton Center at Bricks has been and continues to be a nurturing home to local, national, and global programs and organizations seeking liberation—manifesting a world where systemic oppression does not exist, the whole divinity of a person is realized, the memory, contribution, and resilience of our ancestors is embraced, and the environment is healed. This world embodies the gifts of learning, outdoor play, teaching, health, safety, love, and connection to beloved community
FCAB is an organization at the precipice of great transition, and we are excited to meet this moment with continued leadership. As a Black-led organization located in a predominantly Black rural part of a critically important Southern state, the next generation of FCAB stewardship and leadership rises at the ready to continue building infrastructure that allows us to fulfill our mission and see our vision come to fruition. Our Board of Trustees under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Henry Simmons will continue to support Chef Wayne White (Facilities Manager) and Rev. Elly Mendez Angulo (Program Manager and Interim Executive Director) along with our trusted contractors and many community volunteers.
We are excited to welcome you back home to our 244 acres at FCAB in 2022. To share with even more movement and community partners the natural beauty, a place rooted in the echoes of our history and the inspiration of how far our people have come. To welcome you to a maroon space, a clearing space, our hush harbor, a plantation once used for human degradation now used for human liberation. Be sure to reserve our space for your gathering or event by completing the form located here.
We also encourage you to continue to make a commitment to the longevity, potential, and promise of FCAB by donating. You can find more information about how to contribute here.
While it has ever been our intention to Celebrate Vivian’s Retirement in person, the reality of COVID requires that we celebrate her virtually. We invite you to attend the VIRTUAL Program of Vivian Lucas’ Retirement Celebration!
